It was not difficult to feel caught, somewhere in time, when visiting Mackinac Island Michigan. The lack of automobiles should tell you “you’re not in Detroit anymore Dorothy”. All transportation is on foot, bicycle, or horse drawn coach. The pace is slower, smiles friendlier, and unlike Kentucky, these horses were going nowhere fast.

Joy and I have been talking about traveling to Mackinac Island and staying at The Grand Hotel, since before we were married. That’s been almost 30 years in the planning. Between raising 2 beautiful children and all the field trips, fund raisers, and after school activities included therein, it became a deferred gratification.

Enchanted by the film Somewhere In Time, the hotel captivated our imagination, and the actual experience did not disappoint. From the sweeping lamp post lit entrance, to the Little Stone Church, to the room itself, it was truly an affair to remember. Please enjoy a few morsels of our experience, and share your thoughts. Happy Murphy-Cam!
